Withdrawl, Leave of Absence or Transfer

Should you decide to withdraw, take a leave of absence or transfer from the college, here's some information to make the transition easier.

NOTE: Graduate students must meet with their program director.

CANCELATION/DROP CLASSES: Refers to a cancelation of enrollment prior to or during the drop/add period. The drop/add period is during the first week of the academic semester. Please visit the academic calendar for the official date:/academics/academic_calendar.aspThere will be no record of enrollment for students who drop classes prior to or during the drop/add period.  For detailed information, click here.

TRANSFER: For a student who wishes to leave Canisius College and attend another institution. If the student is currently enrolled in active courses and wishes to withdraw from those courses rather than complete them, a Total Withdrawal should be filed. MILITARY LEAVE/CANCELATION: An official military leave/withdrawal is reserved for students who have been called into active duty. It is not for students who are newly joining the military in lieu of attending school. For students joining the military please complete the Total Withdrawal forms. Click here to download a packet of information and necessary forms.

LEAVE OF ABSENCE (NON MEDICAL/NON MILITARY): Students who wish to return to the college at a later date may request a leave of absence. A student who attends another institution while on leave and/or does not register for two or more semesters and returns to the college, is required to follow the catalog requirements at the time they were first admitted to the college. TOTAL WITHDRAWAL: This action is not meant for withdrawal of individual courses, but for all enrolled courses.This action can only take place during the current semester after the drop/add period has ended. Students who do not wish to complete their current active courses will receive grades of W on their transcript for all enrolled courses. For detailed information, click here. The official withdrawal date determines the refund percentages of tuition. The official date the student moves out of the residence halls and turns in their keys determines the refund percentage for room. Resident students are expected to move out of the residence halls as soon as the withdrawal is processed. Please see refund schedule below.

MEDICAL LEAVE/WITHDRAWAL: Students may request a medical leave of absence from Canisius College when a physical or psychological condition or symptoms of a condition significantly impairs the student’s ability to progress academically and/or comply with the Canisius College Community Standards. This policy is intended to assist students with an absence of one to two semesters. It is not intended to allow a long period of absence during a single semester. Sept  6 - 12 90% refund
Sept 13 - 26 50% refund
Sept 27 - Oct 24 25% refund
Oct  25 - Dec 9 No Refund

SPRING 2012 SEMESTER

Jan  24     Withdrawal from classes begins. 
Jan  24 - 30 90% refund
Jan  31 - Feb 13 50% refund
Feb  14 - Mar 12 25% refund
Mar  13 - May 4 No Refund
            
* Refund only applies to total withdrawal. No refund is given for individual course wihtdrawals.
