The Military Science Program is designed to augment the college learning experience; identifying and developing future leaders is the cornerstone of our program, regardless of future military service. Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) classes are college electives you can take for up to two years
with no military obligation. Our program of instruction includes: leadership development, military skills, and adventure training. The program is open to all students regardless of major. Contracted cadets receive a monthly stipend as well! Students at SUNY Buffalo, D'Youville, Daemen, Medialle, and ECC can obtain a cross enrollment form from either your registrar office, or the ROTC department.
Army ROTC Basic CourseThe Army ROTC Basic Course generally takes place during a students freshman and sophomore year in college. The first year focuses on development of individual leadership skills and functioning as an effective member of a team. Additional emphasis is placed on values and organizational ethics. The second year focuses on motivational techniques, organizational ethics, values, and counseling as part of team dynamics within military organizations. In addition, while enrolled in the Basic Course students will gain hands on training in land navigation, military tactics (paint ball), rappelling, and physical training!
Leader's Training CourseCadets take part in the Leader's Training Course (LTC) when they enter Army ROTC going into their junior year of school. This course, made up of four phases, allows cadets to catch up to those who joined in their freshman and sophomore years. The first phase introduces cadets to the Army and prepares them for the next three phases consisting of team building, leadership development and Field Training Exercises (FTX).
Army ROTC Advanced CourseEntering the Army ROTC Advanced Course in the beginning of your junior year requires a commitment to serve as a Commissioned Officer in the United States Army, Army Reserve, or National Guard after you graduate. The course you take in your junior is in the application of military leadership theory. Instruction includes delivering briefings and issuing operations orders. Advanced military skill training is also a focus of the curriculum in your junior year. Your senior year course has an emphasis on staff organization and function, the Army's training management system, counseling methods, and of course leadership. Cadets apply leadership training received to date as members of the Cadet Battalion Staff.
Leadership Development and Assessment CourseEvery Army ROTC cadet who entered into the Advanced Course attends the Leadership Development and Assessment Course (LDAC) at Fort Lewis, Washington. The course is a four week summer program designed to evaluate and train all Army ROTC cadets. This course normally takes place between your junior and senior years of college.
