Todd McAlister
Spring 2007
Hello and welcome to a day in the life of Todd McAlister, Graduate Assistant for the Sport Administration program at Canisius College. I was born in Buffalo, New York and I have spent my entire life here. I graduated from Hutchinson Central Technical High School in 2002 then I enrolled in Canisius College where I was a recipient of the McGowan Urban Community Scholarship. Along with being a class representative for the McGowan Community, I was also an Athletic Training major which allowed me to become very involved with several varsity teams at Canisius. During my stint as an athletic training student I worked with various teams including the men’s soccer team, men and women’s swimming teams, and the men’s hockey team. I was also involved in on-campus organizations such as the African American Society and RHA. I received my Bachelor of Science from Canisius in 2006. The sports realm has been a passion of mine since I was a youth and I would like use my experience to pursue a career in intercollegiate athletics or player development.
I am currently a first year student in the Sport Administration program at Canisius College for Staci Carney Studesville who is the director of the program. As a graduate assistant I have many tasks which to complete. I have the responsibility of updating the sport administration bulletin board, which is located in the corridor of the Koessler Athletic Center. The bulk of the information that can be found on the bulletin board is information that consists of what the current students and alumni are presently involved in and also relevant internship and career opportunity postings. While in Staci’s office, Laurie and I frequently update the Alumni directory as well as the MSA Web page. While in the office I am able to interact with both the current students and alumni, which is a fascinating networking experience. I am also one of the three council members for the MSA society where I am active in various committees within the organization.
My typical day consists of getting up in the morning and having breakfast with my grandmother. On Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday I enter the office in the mid-morning and usually work on different projects for several hours throughout those days. On Monday, Wednesday and Thursday I attend classes from 6-9 in the evening. I am also a supervisor at Buffalo Pharmacies Inc. where I work roughly twenty hours a week at the Cheektowaga site.
