Why have I been Academically Dismissed?
You have academically dimissed for one (or more) of the following reasons:
  • Your Cumulative GPA is below 1.5 (based on 0-30 credit hours) or below 1.75 (based on 31 or more credit hours)
  • You failed three courses in a single semester
  • You have been placed on academic probation for two successive semesters
Why am I on Academic Probation? You have placed yourself on academic probation because of one of the following:
  • Achieving a Cumulative QPA of 1.50 - 1.99 (based on 0-30 credit hours) or 1.75 - 1.99 (based on 31 or more credit hours)
  • Being academically disqualified but being allowed to return on probation (involves appealing to the Associate Dean)
What GPA (grade point average) do I need to be off probation?
To be off probation, you need a 2.0 GPA overall. Your may have a high semester GPA, but this may not be enough to bring your cumulative GPA to a 2.0.

To find out the exact GPA you need in a semester to be off probation, follow these steps:
    1. You will need to find a copy of your most recent grade report (or, if you cannot find a recent grade report, you can access your student information online with your PIN. This will provide you with your total number of attempted (or carried) credits.
    2. Add the number of credits that you have attempted in prior semesters (credit includes any "F" or "FX" grades, but excludes any "W" grades) to the number of credit hours you are attempting in the current semester. Multiply this total by the desired GPA (to get off probation, you would multiply this by 2.0). This number is the total number of Grade Points you need.
    3. Subtract the cumulative number of Grade Points that you have already earned from the total number needed. This will give you the amount of Grade Points you need to earn in the current semester.
    4. Divide the amount of Grade Points needed by the number of credit hours you are registered for in the current semester. This will give you the GPA necessary for the current semester to bring you to the desired GPA (in this case, a 2.0).

*You can utilize this formula for any GPA you are trying to reach, just substitute the GPA you are aiming for instead of the 2.0 in step 2.

How can I more effectively manage my time?
Time Management has a large impact on academic success. Students may realize they have a great deal of free time on their hands and rather than spend it on academics, time is wasted on other activities.  It is important to learn how to balance academics with extracurricular activities, jobs, and free time for yourself doing whatever it is you may enjoy. Below, you will find a sample schedule of a typical college student and under that a blank schedule which you can fill out for yourself.  The blank schedule is a word document in which you can save to your computer and fill it out according to your schedule, or print it out and write in your activities.
