To the class of 2014, welcome to Canisius College! As President of the Undergraduate Student Association I am honored to be able to receive you into Canisius, the school I have been happy to call home for the past four years.

Canisius is known for being a school of great academics, but more importantly we are known in the community for being a school that helps others. As a Jesuit institution, we live by the rule of “men and women for others,” going around Buffalo, the country, and the world, doing what we can to make lives better. As students of Canisius College we challenge you to do as much as you can to help those around you and to embrace the lifestyle of a Jesuit college student.

As a senior here, the best advice that I can give you is to get involved! One of the things that makes Canisius so great is all of the opportunities we have to offer — from over 100 clubs and organizations, to our sporting events, service activities, study abroad opportunities, and amazing professors. I urge you to do as much as you can. Try out anything that seems remotely interesting to you and go from there. We try to make it as easy as possible for everyone to be engaged students of Canisius, so push yourself and expand your limits. You never know until you try!

The Undergraduate Student Association, or USA as you’ll see it around campus, is your voice. As your student government we urge you to come to us with ideas or concerns you may have throughout your time here. Our office is located in the tunnels right across from Campus Programming and Leadership Development (CPLD), or you can come to any of us you see wearing a USA shirt on a Tuesday for our meetings. Last but not least, run to represent your class!

Most importantly, study hard and have fun. Your time here will go by quicker than you can imagine so in that time do as much as you can and enjoy it as much as you can. Once again, welcome to Canisius, and go Griffs!
