Universidad del Pacifico (UP) is a private university established in 1962 by a group of Peruvian entrepreneurs supported by the Jesuit community.  Today it has become a university specialized in the areas of business administration and economics but also offers couses in other areas of study.  In the past three decades, UP has been ranked as the most prestigious higher education institution in its fields of specialization in Peru, and among the leading of its kind in Latin America.

Lima is the capital and largest city in Peru, with a population approaching 9 million.  Lima is the most populous city in Peru and the fourth largest city in the Americas.  Lima is one of the largest emerging economies in the world today.  The city is the industrial and financial centers in Latin America.  Today it is home to many national companies.  It accounts for more than two thirds of Peru's industrial production and most of its teriary sector of the economy.

Strongly influenced by European, Andean, African, and Asian culture, Lima is a melting pot of cultures due to colonization, immigration, and indigenous influences.  It is also closely tied to Peru's history as it is very close to Cusco, Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley.

Program Costs

 Canisius tuition, study abroad fee ($500), and mandatory health insurance (approx. $45/month).

Program Highlights

Internships are available through the International Relations office depending on the student's level of Spanish.  Additionally, students can sign up for an extended Spanish intensive course.


International student housing is approx. $350 per month for double occupancy and $400 per month for single occupancy.  Students have the option for homestays, which are approx. $750 per month and include three meals per day.  Transportation expenses are approximately $150 per month within Lima.  Airfare and other miscellaneous expenses are also additional.

Currency conversion is estimated at 1 Peruvian Nuevo Sol = $.40.
