Students who study abroad say that it is a life-changing experience. Whether you spend a semester or a year abroad, living and learning in another country will open the doors to personal and professional experiences as well as improve foreign language skills. Some programs even enable students to work as volunteers or interns during their stays and combine language and culture courses with their academic work.
Study abroad programs provide the opportunity to strengthen fluency in other languages, enhance knowledge of global relations and deepen the understanding of cultural and societal differences and similarities.
Who should Study Abroad?
Several majors require an international experience. Students majoring in international relations, international business, European studies or a modern language are strongly encouraged to spend at least one semester abroad. But students from any major may study abroad. Imagine spring break on the French Riviera or hiking in the Alps!
What do I need to do?
Study abroad students at Canisius meet with the Director of International Partnerships & Study Abroad to discuss their needs and goals for the semester overseas. The Director works with Canisius study abroad alumni, the Office of Student Records and the Financial Aid Office to help the student select the most appropriate program by matching academic and cultural interests. Students also undergo a pre-departure orientation to help them prepare for the experience and a re-entry session upon their return.
The Office of International Partnerships & Study Abroad is continually improving and increasing the options made available to Canisius students interested in expanding their horizons.
