Endowments may be created to provide a perpetual source of funds for speakers and other activities which enrich the academic experience at Canisius. Prime examples are the William H. Fitzpatrick Chair of Political Science, the Raichle Pre-Law Center and the George E. Schreiner Pre-Medical Center.
The William H. Fitzpatrick Chair of Political Science was presented to Canisius College in 1958 by Paul E. and Walter D. Fitzpatrick in memory of their parents. The Fitzpatrick Chair of Political Science Lecture Series was inaugurated in 1962 with an address by former President Harry S. Truman. Since then the series has brought to Canisius such noteworthy speakers as Cornel West and former President Jimmy Carter.
In 1981, Frank G. Raichle HON ‘68, a local leader of the American Bar Association, established the Frank G. Raichle Pre-Law Center at Canisius College to benefit pre-law students. Each year the Raichle Lecture Series on Law in American Society brings to campus some of the most renowned figures in American law and politics. Past lectures have featured Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor and former U.S. Attorney General Janet Reno.
Created in 1991, The George E. Schreiner '43 Lecture Series has featured many prominent members of the medical community from across the United States. In his address in November 2000, Dr. Ted Lewers, then chair of the American Medical Association board of trustees, observed that the medical school acceptance rates for Canisius graduates rank among the highest in the country.
