The program in childhood education provides teacher certification in grades 1-6. To meet program prerequisites, candidates must successfully complete six credit hours (one full year course) at the college/university level in each of the following areas: English, science, and social studies. Candidates must also complete three (3) credit hours (one half year course) in a language other than English and mathematics.
Since all courses are taught at the graduate level, once certification requirements are complete, only one additional course (3 credits) is needed to complete the Master of Education Degree. The course may be taken during the final semester of student teaching, if desired. The additional course may also be taken during a different term if preferred.

The childhood program has a variety of scheduling options. Students may complete course work of up to five courses during a semester on a Monday-Tuesday or on a Friday-Saturday schedule. Course work may also be completed exclusively on Saturdays (PDF) by taking up to three courses during a semester.
