Do I need an appointment?
No. Come in whenever you have the time! During our hours of operation, tutors of different academic disciplines will be available, as well as tutors who specialize in writing and proofreading. If a tutor is not available for the course with which you need help, another tutor can help you to identify when a tutor for that course is available.
What are your hours? Do you have evening hours?
The Tutoring Center is open Sunday, 2-10pm; Monday through Thursday from 9am to 10pm and Friday 9am to 3pm.
Will my professor know that I came?
Yes. When you come into the Tutoring Center, the tutor with whom you worked will fill out a form which is sent to your professor. Professors are notified on a weekly basis who attended a tutoring session.
What should I bring with me?
The more you bring with you, the better. If you are coming to discuss a paper, you should bring that paper, the assignment sheet for the paper, and any resources you may have used to write the paper (a textbook, journal articles, etc). If you are coming to prepare for a test or exam, you should bring your textbook, any notes you have on the course material, handouts from the professor, and a review sheet (if provided).
Who is eligible?
Any student at Canisius College, whether an undergraduate or graduate student, is welcome at the Tutoring Center.
What services does the Tutoring Center provide?
The Tutoring Center offers help in a variety of academic disciplines. Tutors are available to proofread and tutor in the core classes (ENG 101, ENG 102, RST 101, and PHI 101). There are also tutors who specialize in certain disciplines (for example, biology or accounting). These tutors can help you to understand difficult concepts or reading and help you to prepare for an exam. Any tutor can help you to develop better study habits, better note-taking habits, and a stronger writing process.
When is the best time to come in?
Anytime! There are always at least three tutors in the Tutoring Center at any given time. If there is not a tutor present who can help you at the time you arrive, you will be notified of a time to come when that help is present.
