The urban studies major offers a solid foundation for graduate programs in public administration, community development and planning, social work, public policy, criminal justice and urban affairs. It is also a recommended choice for pre-law students, and for those who aspire to careers in journalism, government service, social work, law enforcement, community organizations and land-use planning.
Canisius College alumni who majored in urban studies work in such fields as social work, politics, urban planning and education. Many graduates continue their studies in the master's program at SUNY at Buffalo’s School of Architectural and Planning, and then work for private planning consulting firms or engineering firms.
