Kaleidoscope is a multi-faith television program of and about the religious communities of Western New York. It features segments on religious holidays and matters of concern to the religious communities of our region. It is produced monthly for the Network of Religious Communities by the Canisius College Video Institute with the assistance of the Canisius College Media Center and the Institute for the Global Study of Religion at Canisius College. Rev. Dr. G. Stanford Bratton, Executive Director of the Network of Religious Communities, conducts interviews with various local religious leaders and experts.

Kaleidoscope airs first Sundays at 6:00 am on WGRZ-TV and Fridays at 6:35 pm on Time Warner Channel 20.

Segment 3: Cantor Penny Myers of Temple Beth Zion talks about her role and what inspires her.

May 2009 - Host: Rev. Mary Masters, Unity Church of Practical Christianity
Segment 1: Ray Ball, facilitator of the Buffalo Zen Dharma Community, discusses Zen Dharma as a form of meditative Buddhism.
Segment 2: Dr. Stan Bratton, Executive Director of the Network of Religious Communities, talks with Dennis Smith, Vice President of the Spiritual Assembly of Baha’is of Amherst, about his acceptance of the Baha’i faith and its profession of the Oneness of Humanity and its commitment to Race Unity.
Segment 3: Father John Bucki, Director of Campus Ministries at Canisius College, shares the significance of the vestments worn by Roman Catholic Priests.

June 2009 - Host: Ray Ball, Buffalo Zen Dharma Community
Segment 1: Father Rastko Trbuhovich takes viewers inside St. Stephen’s Church to discuss the church’s history and the significance of its artwork.
Segment 2: Dr. Stan Bratton, Executive Director of the Network of Religious Communities, talks with Dr. Surjit Singh of the Sikh Societies of the Niagara Frontier about the meaning of martyrdom and the commemoration of the Martyrdom of Guru Arhan Dave.
Segment 3: Viewers are introduced to the Buffalo Religious Arts Center at the former St. Francis Xavier church in the Black Rock District of Buffalo.

July 2009 - Host: Imam Fajri Ansari, Masjid Nu’Man
Segment 1: Father Don Palace of St. Gabriel’s Church in Elma explains how exercise, a healthy diet and guidance from God helped him lose over 100 pounds.
Segment 2: Dr. Stan Bratton, Executive Director of the Network of Religious Communities, sits down with Rev. Amos Acree and Dr. Dilip Sinha of the University at Buffalo to discuss spirituality and the end of life.
Segment 3: Youth leader Barbara Burns and members of Life Teen – a youth group at St. Katharine Drexel’s parish in Buffalo – share their thoughts on the importance of this group.
Segment 4: Christian Rock band “Blissed” perform “Gasoline” and discuss how Christianity plays a critical role in their music and in their everyday lives.

August 2009 - Host: Rev. Patrick J. Lynch, S.J., Canisius College Department of Religious Studies and Theology
Segment 1: Customs observed during the Islamic holiday of Ramadan.
Segment 2: Students at Universal School, an Islamic school for Muslim children in Getzville, NY, embrace the spirit of service during Ramadan. Segment 3: Two Islamic scholars, Dr. Othman Shibly and Dr. Sawsan Tabbaa, discuss Muslim religious dress in today’s world.
Segment 4: Dr. Stan Bratton, Executive Director of the Network of Religious Communities, talks with Mrs. Krishna Parikh, Religious Secretary of the Hindu Cultural Society and Dr. Vijay Chakravarthy about Sri Krishna and the celebration of Janmashtami.
Segment 5: How devotion and praise are exhibited through the art of Hindu music.

Segment 2: Dr. Stan Bratton, Executive Director of the Network of Religious Communities, talks with Peter Weinmann, Chair of the Jewish Community Relations Council, about the meaning of Yom Kippur.
Segment 3: Dr. Stan Bratton talks with Cindy Simon and Karen Minor about the genealogical research assistance offered by the Family History Center in Williamsville, NY.
Segment 4: James Anderson, a Deacon at New Hope Baptist Church, speaks about the Baptist faith and the importance of music in the liturgy, and performs the Baptist freedom song, “Go Down Moses.”
