Canisius Fund Gifts Change Lives.
Her love of animals led Chanel Davis ’17, MS ’18 to travel from Los Angeles to Buffalo to attend Canisius College. But she never imagined that her experiences in the Animal Behavior, Ecology and Conservation (ABEC) Program would be life-changing.
Through the ABEC Program, Chanel traveled the world including trips to Hawaii, Costa Rica and South Africa. She also participated in hands-on research through the Child and Animal Studies research team, and benefitted from several mentorship and professional experiences. She found a family on the women’s rowing team, a sport she never participated in until coming to Canisius. Yet, Chanel embraced and excelled at the Division I sport for four years.
But the most transformational experiences for Chanel were through Campus Ministry. She learned about Canisius’ Jesuit ideals and values on Kairos retreats and several domestic service trips.
“Before I came to Canisius, I didn’t know the meaning of a Jesuit education,” said Chanel. “The knowledge and experiences I’ve had at Canisius helped form me into the confident, self-aware and justice-oriented person I always wanted to be.”
Gifts in support of the Canisius Fund make life-changing opportunities possible for students, like Chanel, as Canisius Fund gifts go to work immediately to make a difference in the lives of our nearly 3,500 students.
