Accounting Graduates Rank 2nd Overall in NYS

BUFFALO, NY – Canisius University alumni ranked second (2nd) in the overall pass rate in New York State on the 2012 CPA exam cycle, in the category of Medium Programs (institutions with 21 to 60 candidates). The 2012 exam is the most recent to be published by the National Association of the State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA). The results are for graduates of bachelor and graduate programs who are first time candidates sitting for the CPA exam,

Canisius participants scored first (1st) in New York State on the auditing portion of the 2012 CPA exam, with a 74 percent pass rate, and first (1st) on the financial accounting and reporting portion, with a 72 percent pass rate. This same group ranked third (3rd) in New York State on the business environment and concepts portion of the exam, scoring an 81 percent pass rate.

“These latest results are quite a distinction for Canisius but not surprising,” says Joseph B. O’Donnell, PhD, CPA, CISA, chair of the Accounting Department. “Our accounting graduates have a solid record of success and are among the first to be recruited by international, regional and local firms. This speaks to the dedication of our outstanding accounting faculty and the high quality of our students.”

The Department of Accounting is part of the Richard J. Wehle School of Business, which is accredited by the prestigious Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).
