Griffin ’54, HON ’14 receives Legal Elite Lifetime Achievement Award

Richard Griffin ’54, HON ’14 is this year’s recipient of the Legal Elite Lifetime Achievement Award. Presented by Business First and Buffalo Law Journal, the honor recognizes the most respected attorneys in Western New York. 

Griffin’s distinguished legal career spans more than 61 years. Among his many noteworthy cases is the desegregation of the Buffalo public schools in the 1970s. In the 1960s, he was part of the legal team representing Muslim inmates at Attica Correctional Facility as they fought for the right to practice their religion while incarcerated.

Alumna Named to Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame
Castelli '86 celebrated for basketball career

Gina Castelli ’86, head women’s basketball coach at Le Moyne College, will be inducted into the Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame on Tuesday, October 9. Castelli is being celebrated for her career in basketball, both as a player and coach.

After being one of the area's best high school players during what was a golden era for growth in women’s basketball in Western New York, she was a four-year letter winner for Canisius College under Sr. Maria Pares.

When Pares accepted the head coaching job at Marquette University, she launched Castelli’s coaching career by bringing her along as her assistant.

Catholic Health Names Longtime Exec CEO
Sullivan '92, MPA '96 chosen for knowledge, leadership

Catholic Health named a longtime executive as its new CEO: Mark Sullivan '92, MPA '96 will assume the post on March 1, moving up from executive vice president and chief operating officer.

The appointment recognizes Sullivan’s tenure in the No. 2 role under former Canisius Trustee Joesph McDonald, who announced his retirement in September. He was selected from among 30 applicants following a national search.

Alumna is New Social Services Director
Rochelle MS ’12 takes leadership role for Powhatan County

Sharon Rochelle MS '12 was named director of social services for Powhatan County, VA. Rochelle’s leadership and management skills and understanding of the complicated social services management structure made her a perfect fit for the job.

Rochelle previously served as first deputy commissioner for the Erie County Department of Social Services.
