Bundestag Member Visits Campus on German Nat'l Holiday

BUFFALO, NY - Dagmar Freitag, a member of the German Bundestag (German Parliament) will speak at Canisius University on Monday, October 3 at 4 p.m. in the Grupp Fireside Lounge in the Richard E. Winter ’42 Student Center. October 3 is the Day of German Unity and a national holiday in Germany. It commemorates the anniversary of German reunification in 1990. Freitag’s lecture, entitled “21 Years after Reunification,” is free and open to the public. 

Freitag, a member of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD), has served in the German Bundestag since 1994. She is chair of the Sports Committee, as well as a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee. Her domestic political focus includes preventative healthcare, health promotion and sports policy. In foreign affairs, Freitag’s focus includes North America, Africa, and foreign cultural and educational affairs. She has served as vice president of the German Athletics Federation since 2001.
