Burkard ’15, MBA ’16 Receives Elijah Watt Sells Award

Only 58 of 102,323 nationwide received prestigious honor

Paige Burkard ’15, MBA ’16 received a 2016 Elijah Watt Sells Award from the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA).  This prestigious award is given to CPA candidates who have obtained a cumulative average score above 95.5 across all four sections of the Uniform CPA Exam, passed all four sections of the exam on their first attempt and completed testing in 2016.

Burkard, a member of the assurance staff at EY, LLP, was one of 58 candidates out of a total of 102,323 to meet the criteria and receive the award.

Casey MSED ’14 Makes International Boxing Debut

Takes home silver medal in Poland tournament

Wendy Casey MSED ’14 had an impressive performance at her international boxing debut earlier this month.  A member of Team USA and the number one ranked 125-pound female boxer in the country, Casey nabbed a silver medal at the Feliks Stamm Tournament held in Warsaw, Poland.  Casey lost by decision to Azerbaijan’s Anna Alimarda in the championship bout.

Field Dedicated in Honor of Late Coach

Dan Gilbert MS ’00 left his mark at Oakfield-Alabama

Long-time coach and physical education teacher in the Oakfield-Alabama School District, Dan Gilbert MS ’00 passed away in March after a battle with colon cancer. The baseball diamond at Oakfield-Alabama now bears his name.  The dedication ceremony included a community softball game and a youth homerun derby followed by the varsity baseball game.

Engasser ’09 Receives Career Achievement Award

National Institute of the Blind Honors Insurance Executive

Patrick J. Engasser ’09, a district sales coordinator for Aflac, doesn’t let his blindness stop him from achieving his goals. In a recent interview with InsuranceNewsNet.com, Engasser recounts his upbringing and time at Canisius University hosting the “Insane Sports Platter” radio show on Canisius’ WCCG “The Wire.”

Engasser was awarded the Milton J. Samuelson Career Achievement Award from the National Institute of the Blind.

Fenn ’01 Takes on New Role at St. Mary’s

Named director of basketball operations and facilities coordinator

Darren Fenn ’01 took on a new role on the hardwoods as director of basketball operations and facilities coordinator at St. Mary’s High School in Lancaster, NY.

Fenn will run his WNY Premier Basketball Training business out of the St. Mary’s athletic facility and hold elite camps and clinics for student athletes in the area with the St. Mary’s Athletic Department.
