Canisius Accounting Graduates are First in New York State

BUFFALO, NY – Canisius University alumni ranked first (1st), overall, in New York State during the 2015 CPA exam cycle, with a 75 percent pass rate, among medium programs (institutions with between 21 – 60 candidates). The 2015 exam is the most recent to be published by the National Association of the State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA). The results are for graduates of bachelor and graduate programs who are first time candidates sitting for the CPA exam within one year of graduation.

On the individual sections of the 2015 CPA exam, Canisius participants ranked first (1st) in New York State on the auditing portion, among medium programs; first (1st) on the business environment and concepts portion, among small programs (institutions with between 10 – 20 candidates); and first (1st) on the regulation portion, among other programs (institutions with less than 10 candidates).

“The Accounting Department at Canisius University is very proud of its graduates,” said Ian J. Redpath, JD, LLM, chair of the Accounting Department. “These results continue the long tradition of excellence of our graduates and are an exclamation point to the quality of an accounting education at Canisius.”

In addition to securing first place in the overall performance and individual section categories, Canisius University ranked first (1st) in the All Events category of the CPA exam, which includes undergraduate and graduate alumni taking the exam for the first time or repeating a section. Canisius also placed first in the First Time Takers category, which includes those who sat for the CPA exam for the first time.

The Department of Accounting is part of the Richard J. Wehle School of Business, which is accredited by the prestigious Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).
