Canisius American Marketing Association Wins First Place at International Conference

BUFFALO, NY –The Canisius University Chapter of the American Marketing Association (AMA) won first place at the AMA 37th Annual International Collegiate Conference held from March 19-21 in New Orleans, LA.  

The Canisius AMA Chapter beat more than 40 colleges and universities from around the world to win Best Chapter Exhibit for the second consecutive year. Chapters competed in a trade show-like environment in which their booth was judged on criteria such as best use of conference theme (“Be AMA-zing”), best educational value and best communication of chapter activities. Nineteen Canisius students participated in the conference. They include:

  • Hetal Patel ’15, a senior finance major
  • Ashley Butcher ’16 a junior finance and marketing dual major
  • Lauren Ratajczak ’15, a senior marketing and information systems dual major
  • Kari Orlowski ’15, a senior marketing  and mathematics and statistics dual major
  • Kayla Seawood ’15, a senior marketing major
  • Brianna Armignacco ’15, a senior communication studies major
  • Melanie Fisher ’16, a junior finance major
  • Melissa Fisher ’18, a freshman finance major
  • Juliana Tirone ’17, a freshman marketing and communication studies dual major
  • Kayla Maggiore ’17, a sophomore marketing major
  • Stephanie Malangone ’17, a sophomore marketing major
  • Alexandra Coleman ’15, a senior business economics and finance dual major
  • Emma Pastori ’15, a senior management major
  • Angela Graves ’16, a junioraccounting and accounting information systems dual major
  • Austin Rothwell ’17, a sophomore marketing and finance dual major
  • Clay Waliczek ’15, a senior marketing major
  • Juston Locklear ’17, a sophomoremarketing and psychology dual major
  • Derek Maier ’15, a senior psychology major
  • Ryan Schroen ’15, a senior management and marketing dual major
  • Stephen Farrell ’15, asenior management and marketing dual major

In addition to the competitions, students attended professional development programming including seminars, workshops and presentations by successful marketing professionals.

The American Marketing Association (AMA) was established in 1937 by visionaries in marketing and academia. The AMA has become the largest marketing association in the world, with more than 30,000 members who work, teach and study in the field of marketing across the world.

The Canisius AMA Chapter is a professional student organization and one of nearly 300 student chapters nationwide. Gregory Wood, PhD, associate dean of the Wehle School of Business, serves as faculty adviser. One of the Canisius AMA Chapter’s main goals is to help students prepare for their lives post-graduation, both professionally and personally. The group also provides students with many opportunities for community service. The AMA has recognized the Canisius Chapter with numerous awards in the past several years, including its Outstanding Community Service Award, Outstanding Professional Development Award and first place awards in the exhibit competition. 

Canisius is one of 28 Jesuit universities in the nation and the premier private university in Western New York.
