Canisius University to Unveil 2015 Quadrangle

April 7, 2015

BUFFALO, NY - Canisius University’s literary and visual arts magazine, Quadrangle, will unveil its 63rd issue on Wednesday, April 15 at 6:00 p.m. in the Grupp Fireside Lounge, located on the second floor of the Richard E. Winter ’42 Student Center.

The latest issue of Quadrangle includes poetry, short stories, creative non-fiction, artwork and photography. The unveiling will involve readings from selected contributors. This year’s issue contains surprises that any book or art enthusiast simply cannot resist.

For the first time in the magazine’s long-standing history, Quadrangle will be printed on certified post-consumer and post-industrial recycled paper, earning it an eco-friendly designation by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).

“In planning this year’s Quadrangle, we wanted to see the publication continue in print,” said co-editor-in-chief Hanna Etu ’15. “As avid readers and book lovers, we stand behind the printed word, which is why we saw a need to be sustainable. We want a printed copy but we want it to be printed ethically too.”

The design of Quadrangle remains a mystery every year but this year’s magazine will be a new shape than previous issues.

“We spent hours perfecting a mature design that celebrates the contributors' creative works individually,” said co-editor-in-chief Victoria Claflin ’15. “But there is also a cohesiveness to the layout that allows the visual and literary works to communicate with one another.”

Quadrangle 2015 represents an exciting new chapter in our story,” said Mick Cochrane, PhD, Quadrangle moderator and director of the Creative Writing Program. “This year’s magazine is going to be irresistible: the design is going to make people want to pick it up, and once they see the range and quality of the work inside, they won’t want to put it down.”

The Quadrangle will also unveil a newly-redesigned website, built by Brooke Ballard ’15. The site will not only showcase the literary magazine and serve as an archive of past issues, but will provide information about the college’s Creative Writing Program.

Canisius University is one of 28 Jesuit universities in the nation and the premier private university in Western New York.
