Karl Rove Speaks at Canisius in September

BUFFALO, NY – The William H. Fitzpatrick Institute of Public Affairs and Leadership at Canisius University will welcome Karl Rove, former deputy chief of staff and senior advisor to President George W. Bush, on Monday, September 17, at 7:00 p.m. in the Montante Cultural Center, located at the corner of Main Street and Eastwood Place. Rove’s lecture is entitled “Understanding America’s Challenges.” The event is free and open to the public. Seating is limited. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. 

Known as the architect of President Bush’s 2000 and 2004 campaigns, Karl Rove served as senior advisor to President Bush from 2000-2007 and deputy chief of staff from 2004-2007. He oversaw the offices of Strategic Initiatives, Political Affairs, Public Liaison and Intergovernmental Affairs. Rove also served as deputy chief of staff for policy. In this role, he coordinated the White House policy-making process. 

Referred to as a “master political strategist” (Washington Post), and “the greatest political mind of his generation” (The Weekly Standard), Rove is best known for his provocative and robust knowledge of the major political issues of the day. He writes a weekly op-ed for the Wall Street Journal, is a FOX News contributor and author of The New York Times bestseller Courage and Consequence: My Life as a Conservative in the Fight. 

Prior to managing President Bush’s political campaigns, Rove was president of Karl Rove + Company, an Austin, TX- based public affairs firm that worked for Republican candidates, non-partisan causes, and non-profit groups. His clients included more than 75 Republican, U.S. senate, congressional and gubernatorial candidates, in 24 states. 

A Colorado native, Rove attended the University of Utah, the University of Maryland-College Park, George Mason University and the University of Texas, Austin. He has taught graduate students at the University of Texas, Austin’s Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs, and undergraduates in a joint appointment from the Journalism and Government departments at the university. 

Rove currently serves on the University of Texas Chancellor’s Council Executive Committee and on the Board of Trustees for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation and the Texas State History Museum Foundation. He is a member of the McDonald Observatory Board of Visitors and the Texas Philosophical Society.
