Nasca, Zimmer to be Honored at the Canisius College Annual Business Awards Dinner

BUFFALO, NYDavid J. Nasca ᾿79, president and chief executive officer of Evans Bancorp, Inc. will receive the Business Executive of the Year Award at the annual Canisius College Business Awards Dinner on Tuesday, October 10 at Salvatore’s Italian Gardens. Cocktails begin at 5:30 p.m.; dinner is at 6:30 p.m.; the awards presentation will follow and include the presentation of the Dr. Bernard L. Martin Award to Daniel J. Zimmer ᾿83, MBA ᾿87. The Business Awards Dinner is co-sponsored by the Business Advisory Council to the Richard J. Wehle School of Business.
 

Established in 1969, the Business Executive of the Year Award honors an outstanding Western New York business executive who has achieved professional success and demonstrated a broad interest in civic affairs. The Richard J. Wehle School of Business at Canisius College presents the award annually at the Business Awards Dinner.

 

By fostering relationships with customers and the communities it serves, Evans Bank N.A., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Evans Bancorp Inc. ‒ has grown to become a $1.2 billion, nationally chartered bank. David J. Nasca has been at the helm of this bank’s transformative growth for more than a decade. Under his direction, the bank expanded to include a full range of financial services for commercial clients and consumers including banking, insurance, investment and employee benefit services, with 14 bank branches throughout the region.  

 

Nasca consistently gives back to the community. He was a driving force behind the creation of the Evans Community Commitment Team, which fosters service and volunteerism within the Evans family of companies. It supports organizations such as The Food Bank of WNY and Habitat for Humanity. Nasca has served as a board member for Catholic Charities, Buffalo Niagara Partnership and Buffalo Urban Development Corporation. For alma mater, he is a member of the Canisius College Board of Trustees and a member of the Richard J. Wehle School of Business Advisory Board.

 

Nasca holds a bachelor’s degree in management and marketing from Canisius College and an MBA in finance from the State University of New York at Buffalo.  

 

Daniel J, Zimmer ᾿83, MBA ᾿87 will also be recognized at the annual Business Awards Dinner. The Canisius alumnus will receive the Bernard L. Martin Award. Established in 1976 by the Board of Directors of the Canisius College Masters Alumni Association (MBAA), the award recognizes a distinguished graduate of the college’s graduate business programs – someone who has excelled professionally and also provided significant service to the community.

 

As vice president of corporate finance and development for Delaware North, Daniel Zimmer is responsible for a wide range of finance, real estate and corporate initiatives for the company.  Delaware North is a global leader in hospitality and food service and one of the largest privately held companies in the world with more than $3 billion in annual revenue and 66,000 employees on five continents. Zimmer joined the company in 1995 and has served in a number of finance positions, including vice president of business operations for the Boston Bruins. He was promoted to his current position in 2010.

 

Zimmer currently serves a number of charitable and philanthropic organizations.  He is treasurer for the Jacobs Foundation, a non-profit committed to creating the next generation of medical technology to treat vascular disease and president of the Miracle League of WNY, a non-profit that enables children with disabilities to experience the joy of playing baseball. Zimmer also offers guidance as director of the Buffalo Renaissance Foundation and as a member of the Canisius College Business Advisory Council.

 

Zimmer holds a bachelor’s degree in finance and an MBA from Canisius College.

 

Edward M. Murpy ᾿73 will be honored with the Dr. Richard A. Shick Award during the evening. This award was created in 2001 in honor of Dr. Richard A. Shick who faithfully served as dean of the Richard J. Wehle School of Business from 1979 to 2002.  The award is given to a deserving individual who has made important contributions to the success of the business school and Canisius College.
