Patrick P. Lee HON '99 Commits $2 Million to Canisius
BUFFALO, NY – Canisius College President John J. Hurley announced today that Patrick P. Lee HON ’99 has committed a $2 million unrestricted gift to A Legacy of Leadership: The Campaign for Canisius College.
The largest fundraising initiative in the college’s history, A Legacy of Leadership seeks to raise $90 million. The campaign total now stands at $88.2 million and is expected to close on May 31, 2012.
Patrick Lee served as chair and chief executive officer of International Motion Controls Inc. (IMC), a Buffalo-based business that focuses on motion control technologies and products, until he sold the company in 2007. An inventor and engineer early in his career, Lee built IMC from a small machine shop in 1966 that did business out of a converted dairy in Kenmore, into a global empire with facilities located in the United States, Europe, United Kingdom, Japan, China and Korea.
In 2005, Lee formed the Patrick P. Lee Foundation, a broad-based charitable organization that provides funding to those organizations that have a positive impact in medical care & research, education, behavioral health and human & community service in Western NY and Southern FL. The majority of the assets from the sale of IMC has been or will be utilized for the Foundation.
“We are forever grateful to Patrick Lee for this extraordinary gift that moves us very close to our goal in this historic campaign for Canisius,” said Hurley. “Patrick’s Jesuit education has been a cornerstone in his life, and his support of Canisius - the Jesuit college in Buffalo - over the past several decades has been exemplary. I am personally grateful to Patrick, for the vote of confidence that this gift represents.”
“Canisius is a great asset in the Buffalo Niagara community,” said Lee. “The college has educated leaders in every walk of life who contribute in innumerable ways to the betterment of this region. It is essential that the Canisius Legacy of Leadership campaign succeeds. I hope that my gift will encourage others to come forward and put the campaign ‘over the top.’”
At Canisius, Lee served on the Board of Trustees from 2000 – 2006 and as a member of the Board of Regents from 1980 - 1986. He currently serves on the college’s Investment Advisory Subcommittee, which manages the college’s endowment. The Patrick P. Lee Student Athletic Center on the Canisius campus was dedicated in 1998 in honor of Lee’s gift to the Imagine Canisius Campaign.
In 1999, Lee received an honorary doctor of humane letters degree from Canisius and was named the Business Executive of the Year by the college’s Richard J. Wehle School of Business.
Lee holds a bachelor of science degree in aeronautical engineering from St Louis University.
