ABEC Faculty-Student Collaboration

On campus, Joshua Russell, Ph.D., Assistant Professor, helps students engage their creative side to develop educational materials to promote conservation through a "Conservation Station." Campus community members and the public can learn about local conservation problems and what they can do to help.

The Canisius Ambassadors for Conservation program, under the direction of Michael Noonan, Ph.D., has developed a global outreach program. CAC video productions have been distributed to 1,000 public and school libraries throughout New York State. The CAC website has been accessed by more than 400,000 unique visitors.

With the help of Susan Margulis, Ph.D., Associate Professor, students that travel to the Lajuma Research Centre in South Africa work closely with undergraduate and graduate students from the University of Venda in northern South Africa, which offers an amazing scientific and cultural experience for students from both institutions. A visit to a local elementary school provides another opportunity for outreach and teaching. Independent research projects at the centre allow students to explore their interests in wildlife ecology.
