Latin American Studies
Undergraduate: Major, Minor
Latin America consists of territories in the Americas, including Mexico, most of Central and South America, and in the Caribbean, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, and Puerto Rico. If you are attracted to the diverse cultures and vibrant countries in this part of the world, look into Latin American Studies.
Adopted as a second or third major, the program offers an interdisciplinary major and minor covering Latin American government, politics, business, and public policy. You will learn how to apply this knowledge to contemporary issues and themes in writing projects and presentations. You will also learn to communicate at the intermediate level in Spanish.
Coursework, internships and community outreach combine to promote intellectual discussion, teaching and research on modern Latin America and the Caribbean. The program also includes the study of Latinos in the United States, with service learning opportunities available in Western New York.
The Latin American Studies program is one of the few programs in the nation that focuses on both Latino and Latin American/Caribbean studies.
