Sport Management Extended Learning Opportunities
There's no better way to get in the game than by participating in one of several internship opportunities available through the sport management program. Canisius' network of 400 alumni in the sport industry and its many long-standing professional associations give the college a competitive edge when it comes to finding valuable internship opportunities for students. Of course it helps to be centered amongst Buffalo rich sports scene.
Institute for Research in Sport
Build your academic and professional credentials and gain practical experience in the sports industry via the college's Institute for Research in Sport (IRIS). Under the guidance of faculty and professional alumni in the sports industry, students can pursue independent research relevant to their academic interests in the sports industry, with the ultimate goal of having their work published. The IRIS also hosts workshops, guest speakers and networking opportunities for students to build and share expertise on important issues and trends in the field.
The Sport Management (SM) program works to engage, encourage and empower students to be active participants in our community. We believe that through community service students can take another step towards maximizing their personal growth and development. Each year the Special Events class puts together a Bowl N' Blast in which all money raised goes towards a local charity. Students and professors also volunteer their time benefiting many organizations. Some of those organizations include:
- Habitat for Humanity
- Salvation Army
- Roswell Park Cancer Institute
- Hunter's Hope
- Ronald McDonald House
- The Steadfast Foundation
