What is Canisius Connect?

Canisius Connect is an online platform that allows alumni to help mentor and network with our current students, as well as other alumni. It has almost 500 active users on it to date. The platform serves as an opportunity to connect people who have shared interests and who need some assistance in their professional journey. We regularly get asked about how alumni can get involved but often times, those folks don't have the chance to set foot on campus. Canisius Connect gives our alumni the opportunity to get involved and help out on their own time.

As an alumnus, why should I sign up?

This is a unique opportunity to give back to Canisius College by sharing your time and expertise with current students and other alumni- virtually and when it is convenient for you.

How much time will being an active user require?

One of the features of Canisius Connect is that it’s not intended to connect you with students and alumni to facilitate lengthy mentoring relationships. It's meant to help students and other alumni with very specific professional help in a virtual way.  It’s up to you how much you choose to use the platform, you’re even able to set preferences for the level of engagement you’re willing to commit to.  

Canisius Connect is designed with working professionals in mind. You can control how many students you interact with, and choose to participate in the following focus areas: Interview coaching, resume and cover letter writing, study and time management skill building and internship and job opportunity guidance.

How do I create my profile?

We launched Canisius Connect to the entire alumni community on January 31, 2018 and again on March 14, 2018. If you want to get involved, please let us know. We will reissue you an introductory email which you need to click through to join. You will then be asked to take a brief personality test, which will provide baseline context to other users to suggest compatibility in your conversations and line of thought. After this, you will be asked to enter your professional history, upload a photo, and decide how you want to be contacted through the site.

You even have the option to connect via LinkedIn, by following the LinkedIn icon via your tokened email invitation. You must then allow CampusTap to connect to your profile and you’re all set- your name, profile image, bio, industries and summary will all appear for you.

I created my profile, what should I do next?

Once your profile is created, students and other alumni will be able to search for you and request to be part of your network. You will receive a notification and have the ability to accept this person.
