Emily Baker
Student Commencement Speaker
School of Education and Human Services

A human services major, Emily Baker is a member of Delta Kappa Gamma (DKG), which promotes the professional and personal growth of women educators and excellence in education. Baker received the DKG Alpha Lambda Chapter Ida M. Lautz Award in 2016.

Baker connects community members to available services as a member of the West Seneca Stakeholders Coalition. She also is an associate member of the West Seneca Environmental Commission which is charged with the preservation and improvement of the quality of the natural and man-made environment. Baker also traveled to Oviedo, Spain where she taught elementary students for three weeks.

Baker currently works for the Town of West Seneca Recreation Department as a youth service coordinator and guard supervisor at the local ice rink.


Dilpreet Kaur
Student Commencement Speaker
College of Arts and Sciences

A biology major, Dilpreet Kaur is a member of Alpha Sigma Nu, the National Jesuit Honor Society, vice president of the Tri-Beta National Biological Honor Society and secretary of Di Gamma Honor Society. 
     
Kaur served as a senator in the Undergraduate Student Association (USA) since 2015, volunteered as a New Student Orientation Leader in the Griff Center for Academic Engagement and was a resident assistant during the National Jesuit Student Leadership Conference. 

Kaur is currently a lab manager and research assistant with Elizabeth A. Hogan, PhD, co-chair and associate professor of the Biology Department. Their research is on the effects of microtubule acetylation on microtubule dynamics in helisoma trivolvis neurons. 

Kaur gives back to the community in many ways. She is a student volunteer at the Pediatric & Adolescent Urgent Care of WNY, the New Hope Education Center, Harvest House and St. Luke’s Mission of Mercy. 


Matthew Tanchick
Student Commencement Speaker
Wehle School of Business

A business economics major, Matthew Tanchick is president of Enactus Canisius, CEO of QuadGear, the on-campus screen printing company, and manager of the equipment room in the Koessler Athletic Center. He spent time at the University of Berlin’s School of Economics and Law taking an Entrepreneurship and Innovation Management course, which allowed him to visit companies and institutions and take German language classes.

Tanchick is also an avid volunteer. He assists local refugees assimilate into the American culture through Sew REDI Buffalo. Tanchick helps refugees create their own financial assets and serves as a sales representative for the products that the refugees make for an income.


Nasya Watson
Student Commencement Speaker
Graduate Commencement

Naysa Watson is a Master of Business Administration student with a focus on global supply chain management. She is a member of Beta Gamma Sigma, the business honor society. She also received her bachelor’s degree from Canisius in international business in 2014.  

Watson served as team captain of the club volleyball team at Canisius. In this role, she coordinated tournaments and fundraisers, budgeted the team spending account, and managed team travel and lodging arrangements.
