The Canisius College Board of Regents will honor Dr. Candace S. Johnson, President and CEO of Roswell Park Cancer Institute as the 2018 Distinguished Citizen at the Regents Scholarship Ball on May 5, 2018 at the Hyatt Regency Buffalo.
Dr. Candace S. Johnson, President and CEO of Roswell Park Cancer Institute was named President & CEO, the Wallace Family Chair in Translational Research, and Professor of Oncology in February of 2002. As CEO, Dr. Johnson operates a $700 million organization amidst a time in which federal grant money is sparse and for which there is ferocious competition. She also manages a staff of more than 3,200 while putting the institute in the best place to attract new and top talent from across the globe.
The Regents Ball provides a wonderful opportunity to honor individuals, such as Dr. Johnson, who have made outstanding contributions to Western New York while also raising vital funds for the Board of Regents Endowed Scholarship Fund. The Fund affords deserving students the opportunity to stay the course to personal and professional success despite financial challenges. Since its inception, the scholarship endowment has awarded nearly $900,000 of essential financial assistance to promising Canisius students. Thanks to the support of alumni and friends, last year’s event raised $190,000!
The evening includes dinner and an open bar, a raffle, live auction, and music by Nik and the Nice Guys.
