Begin A New Career as a Counselor

MS Programs in Counseling

Counseling programs at Canisius prepare you to meet the educational, emotional, psychological, social, and career needs of diverse populations. We offer two CACREP-accredited, NYS-approved MS programs: School Counseling and Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Both provide the coursework and field experience necessary to become a licensed practicioner in New York State. No prior counseling background is required to apply.

School Counseling

School Counseling graduates leave ready to provide academic, social and career support to students in K-12 settings. Field experiences at our partner schools and a supervised practicum prepare you with hands-on training.

Clinical Mental Health Counseling

The Clinical Mental Health Program prepares counseling graduate students to work in various mental health settings, including hospitals, substance abuse treatment facilities, college counseling centers, private practice and inpatient and outpatient mental health facilities and more. Students receive hands-on training through supervised practicum and internship field experiences with partner organizations.
