Sport Management Student Letter

Bailey Lis
I am a junior majoring in sport management here at Canisius University. When I made my decision to come to Canisius, many people asked me what I wanted to do as a career. The truth is, sport management is such a huge field with so many different careers you can pursue, it was virtually impossible for me to give an answer. All I knew was that I had a passion for sports, and that I wanted to try a bunch of different things before I decided what I wanted to do.

Luckily, Canisius provided me with opportunities to get involved right from the start. I have a work-study job with Canisius University Athletics, where I have learned all about the operations of a Division I Athletic Program, including admission tickets, merchandise, promotions, etc. I have also worked with the Buffalo Bills for three seasons in the admissions ticket office and with 50/50 raffle tickets, and with the Buffalo Beauts, a pro women’s ice hockey team, for one season through game operations. Even with all these activities, I was still able to study abroad in Australia last semester!

The thing is, I never would have had the opportunities with both intercollegiate athletics and professional sports if it wasn’t for our program here at Canisius. If you take advantage of the connections and opportunities presented, you are bound to be successful.
