Academic Support

At Canisius, academic support is central to our mission of cura personalis — care for the whole person. The support structure at Canisius is multi-layered and highly individualized. All students have an advisor with specialization in their major as well as the opportunity to work with a team of additional advisors who assist with signature learning experiences such as study abroad, internships, career development, undergraduate research opportunities, and service learning. The Griff Center for Academic Engagement provides an additional layer of advisement support..

Declaring a Major Advising: The Griff Center provides advisement for students who are still deciding on a major. By working collaboratively with the team of professionals within the Griff Center, students have exposure to career development tools and academic major exploration.

Major Matters Class (Griff 203): Learn how to put your strengths and interests together to explore majors and minors through coursework and extracurricular activities.  Students who are intrested in changing majors can also take Major Matters (Griff 203) and work with the Griff Center team to help them decide and clarify their choices.  Regardless of your class year, The Griff Center team is here to help you find the major and career that are the best fit for you!

Career Advising: The Griff Center provides personalized services and programs to meet the complete career development needs of Canisius students and alumni. Professionals in the Griff Center supply tools for choosing a major, exploring careers, finding an internship, and developing job search skills. The Clifton StrengthFinder and the Strong Interest Inventory are among the premium tools available to students at no additional cost.

Student Athletic Advising: Achieving the balance necessary to be successful as a student and an athlete can be challenging. Student athletes have access to an advisor specializing in the needs of athletes to augment their regular advisement process.
