The ALANA Student Center presents programs that help students foster greater collegiate awareness through leadership development, cross-cultural dialogue, and alumni mentoring opportunities. Below you will find just a sampling of ASC’s offerings:

ALANA Orientation

The ALANA Orientation has been designed to provide an opportunity for ALANA Students & Friends to meet one another and explore valuable approaches as to how to navigate at a predominantly Catholic/Jesuit institution.

Annual Soup With Substance 

The annual Soup With Substance Series, open to the campus and the Western New York community, presents culturally-based programs to familiarize audiences with topics germane to ALANA cultures. This may include, but is not limited to, motivational speakers, open discussion on current topics affecting people of color locally and/or nationally, and cultural entertainment. Four different cultural SWS programs are presented in align with ALANA and students are encouraged to assist in the implementation of these engaging events. 

Canisius University annually celebrates Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr’s legacy by featuring community leaders, many from Western New York, who share how the late Civil Rights Leader continues to influence their lives. Cultural Excursions
The ALANA Student Center sponsored students to experience the Native American Museum in Salamanca, NY. 

Cultural Excursions

Cultural excursions are culturally based co-curricular trips in which students are able to experience various aspects of a given culture through artistic expressions or historical context. The excursions change from year-to-year and are sponsored by the ASC at no additional cost to students.
