Applying for Financial Aid
The first step in the financial aid application process is the completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The U.S. Department of Education is implementing significant changes to the FAFSA for the 2024-2025 academic year, and there will be a shift in timeline and process that will impact all filers. For additional information and continued updates please visit the 2024-2025 FAFSA Updates Page.
November 2023
Apply for FSA ID
Every student, and in most cases at least one parent, must apply for a Federal Student Aid ID (FSA ID). To do so, visit studentaid.gov and click “create account”. Start and finish the student FSA ID, and repeat the process for the parent. Data confirmation typically takes 24-48 hours, after which the FSA IDs can be used to login to and sign the FAFSA.
December 2023 – Complete the FAFSA
The FAFSA is tentatively set to open in December. File as soon as possible after opening to allow schools as much time as possible to prepare financial aid awards. The sooner you file, the sooner you will be awarded, and the more time you will have to make a final decision based on a financial plan that works for you.

All undergraduate New York State residents are encouraged to apply for the New York State Tuition Assistance Program (TAP).
