Are you ready to take on the Big Apple?
You will be! The Fashion Merchandising program at Canisius, in conjunction with the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in New York City, combines marketing and fashion-related courses to provide a solid curriculum for students interested in a career in the fashion industry. Students accepted into the program spend either their junior or senior years in New York City at FIT, where they complete coursework in fashion design, manufacturing and retailing. Upon graduation, students will receive a B.S. in Marketing from Canisius and an Associate’s degree from FIT – that’s accomplishing a lot in just four years!
The Canisius – FIT partnership gives students a unique opportunity to get a degree in a nationally ranked marketing program, and the ability to spend a year in NYC, the fashion capital of the world. Fashion Merchandising students find that their three years at Canisius prepares them for the many opportunities that go along with living and working in NYC, including – building professional relationships, getting internships and careers in the fashion industry, and giving them a much-needed edge in a competitive industry.
100% of Canisius students who want career-related internships get them.

Mexi-Canisius Imports Project
Through the Mexi-Canisius Imports Project, students travel to Mexico with Canisius faculty members to buy arts and crafts from indigenous artisans in rural areas. Once they return to Buffalo, they work with other students to import the crafts to sell on campus. Through this project, students are able to support economic development in Mexico, and learn about international business. The proceeds of the sales are put back into the project to keep it going for future classes.
QuadGear is a student-managed business that sells customized apparel and promotional products – everything from t-shirts to bumper stickers. The mission is to provide products to companies and organizations to help increase their awareness and appeal, and to give students an opportunity to take what they’ve learned in the classroom, and apply it in a “real-life” business setting.
