Admission Requirements

Undergraduate Admission Requirements

-A completed application (Canisius College App or Common App)
-Copy of Passport biographical page
-Secondary school transcripts. These transcripts must be originals, in English, certified by your school. 
-Proof of English Language Proficiency (see below)
-If you have attended a college or university, please submit transcripts with English translations.

Graduate Admission Requirements

-A completed application
-Copy of Passport biographical page
-University transcripts. These transcripts must be originals and evaluated by an evaluation service, such as WES.
-Proof of English Language Proficiency (see below)
-GRE or GMAT scores for certain programs- refer to program requirements.

English Language Proficiency Requirement

TOEFL 79 IBT or 550 PBT
IELTS 6.5 overall
SAT Evidence-Based Reading & Writing Score 560+
ACT English & Reading Test Sections Combined Score 42+
Duolingo English Test minimum score of 105
ELS Level 112
PTE Academic Minimum score of 65
GTEC Minimum score of 1200
CAEL 70 overall

The following applicants are not required to demonstrate English language proficiency with a standardized test:

  • Native speakers of English who are citizens of Australia, Canada (except Quebec), Ireland, New Zealand, the UK, or South Africa who were also educated entirely in English.
  • Citizens of Singapore who were educated entirely in English and who achieved a grade of at least “D” in English on the O-Level examination.
  • High school students who have completed at last two years of study at a US or Canadian secondary school studying academic English.
  • Transfer applicants who have completed at least two terms (semesters or quarters) of English composition with grades of “C” or better at an accredited U.S. or Canadian college/university (except Quebec). ESL classes and foundation-level classes are excluded.

Once international students are admitted to Canisius, they must submit documents to obtain a student visa. Refer to the International Student Checklist for detailed instructions on how to complete this.
