Canisius University received a $441,000 bequest from the estate of alumnus Robert W. Hickey Jr. ’65. This generous donation will provide crucial funding to enhance the student experience.

Grateful for his Canisius education, Hickey was a loyal donor for more than 40 years. “It’s heartwarming to know that his time at alma mater was so important to him that he made Canisius a philanthropic priority throughout his lifetime,” said Dianna Civello, interim vice president for advancement. “Now, his legacy gift will continue to support students for many years to come.”

A Buffalo resident, Hickey was a retired attendance officer for the Buffalo Public Schools. He earned a bachelor’s degree in history from Canisius in 1965.

Canisius was founded in 1870 in Buffalo, NY, and is one of 27 Jesuit colleges and universities in the U.S. Consistently ranked among the top institutions in the Northeast, Canisius offers undergraduate, graduate and pre-professional programs distinguished by close student-faculty collaboration, mentoring and an emphasis on ethical, purpose-driven leadership.
