Finance Students Win People's Choice Award

BUFFALO, NY - Celly Sticks, a business plan team which includes Canisius University finance majors and ice hockey players Preston Shupe ’13 and Torrey Lindsay ’13, won the prestigious People’s Choice Award at the New York State Business Plan Competition on Thursday, April 26 in Albany. Mary Kay Copeland, visiting assistant professor of management at Canisius University, served as the team’s advisor. 

Shupe and Lindsay intend to launch Celly Sticks as a company which provides hockey players with high-quality hockey sticks that are customized with the team’s logo and player name and number at a lower cost than other sticks of equal quality.

Twelve teams from Canisius participated in the event, which is one of the largest business plan competitions in the country. The students were also accompanied by Patricia A. Hutton, PhD, professor of economics and finance; and Melinda Rath Sanderson, executive director of the Canisius University Women’s Business Center.
