Ian Redpath, JD, to Receive Distinguished Faculty Award

Buffalo, NY – The Canisius University Alumni Association will recognize Ian J. Redpath, JD, LLM, with its 2023 Kenneth L. Koessler Distinguished Faculty Award, during Spring Honors Convocation on Friday, May 19 at 2:00 p.m. in the Montante Cultural Center. The annual award recognizes a Canisius professor who demonstrates teaching excellence and outstanding contributions to the academic world.   

Redpath has been a professor of law and taxation at Canisius University since 1985, and is chair of the Accounting Department and director of graduate accounting, providing invaluable insight to faculty and students.  

An expert in his field, Redpath is well regarded for his experience as an educator. He has a long record of scholarly activity including a number of books and articles on contemporary tax issues in quality academic and practice journals.   Redpath also serves as a host on a monthly program on the CPENetwork and is a regular guest on Edwards Jones’  “Tax All Stars.”

In 2021, he was recognized by Marquis “Who’s Who Top Educators” for dedication, achievements and leadership in the field of financial education. In 2022, he was named by Top 100 as its national Professor of the Year for his contributions in law and taxation.   

Redpath started his education at Hillsdale College where he received a bachelor's degree in liberal studies.  He earned a doctor of jurisprudence at the University of Detroit and a master of laws degree (tax emphasis) from the University of Wisconsin.  Redpath is admitted to practice law in the states of Michigan and New York, and before the Federal Courts and U.S. Tax Court.   

Prior to his time teaching at Canisius University, Redpath worked as a professor at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay.  He also was a professor at the University of Clermont-Ferrand in France. Redpath has been a Visiting Lecturer at the All-Russian Academy and the prestigious MGIMO, in Moscow. Before entering the teaching profession, he had his own firm and was the former a prosecuting attorney (DA) in Michigan.   

His other accomplishments include Volunteer of the Year and Man of the Year by the Amherst Chamber of Commerce, Recognition by the Amherst Soccer Assocition for his dedication to the youth of Amherst and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Western New York Soccer State Association.
