Buffalo, NY - The Canisius Athletic Department turned in another stellar semester in the classroom as all 20 of its varsity programs posted a cumulative grade point average of 3.10 or higher during the 2024 fall semester.
A total of 18 teams recorded a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher, while the school's 405 active student-athletes combined to post a cumulative GPA of 3.47 for the term.
The recently-completed semester also saw 51 student-athletes earn a perfect 4.0 grade point average. Those 51 student-athletes highlighted a group of 355 student-athletes to post a term GPA of 3.0 or higher, representing 87.7 percent of the University's student-athlete population.
The volleyball program fashioned a departmental-best 3.73 cumulative GPA during the just-completed semester while women's cross country and track teams recorded a 3.71 cumulative GPA to place second. Softball (3.60), men's cross country and track (3.60) and women's lacrosse (3.59) followed just behind while women's soccer (3.58) and hockey (3.55) also fashioned cumulative GPAs above 3.50 during the most-recent semester.
In November, the Canisius athletic department posted a 97 percent Graduation Success Rate in the latest data released by the NCAA.
Canisius' 97 percent GSR, representing incoming student-athletes from 2014-15 through 2017-18, is one percentage point lower than the school-record 98 percent GSR that was established last year. The report represented the fifth consecutive year that the Athletic Department has recorded a graduation success rate that was 97 percent or higher.
The data also showed that 19 of Canisius' 20 varsity programs posted a GSR score of 90 or higher while a total of 13 programs recorded perfect 100 percent graduation rates: men's cross country and track, golf, hockey, men's soccer, women's basketball, women's cross country and track, rowing, women's lacrosse, women's soccer, women's swimming and diving and volleyball.
