Beck Named Canisius University Student Commencement Speaker

BUFFALO, NY – Jonathan C. Beck will give the student commencement address during Canisius University’s 147th  undergraduate commencement ceremonies on Saturday, May 18 at 10 a.m. in Alumni Arena at SUNY Buffalo’s North Campus. The undergraduate class is comprised of 726 Canisius students.

Beck is a political science, German and European studies major in the All-College Honors Program. He is the recipient of a J. William Fulbright Scholarship to conduct research in Germany at Eberhard Karls Universität Tubingen. Beck is a member of Alpha Sigma Nu, the Jesuit Honors Society, for which he served as a student member on the Board of Directors for three years. He is also a member of Delta Phi Alpha, the National German Honor Society; and Phi Sigma Alpha, the National Political Science Honors Society.

Beck has extensive leadership and extra-curricular experience, including as opinion editor and news editor for The Griffin student newspaper. In addition, Beck served as a resident assistant for the Office of Residence Life and introduced prospective students and their parents to campus as an admissions tour guide.  As a Canisius Earning Excellence Program (CEEP) student, he worked in the Fine Arts Office. Beck organized events for the department including an annual benefit concert for local public school music programs which raised more than $3,000 in the last three years.

Beck also served on the All-College Honors Student Board and as a student representative on the All-College Honors Advisory Committee. He was treasurer of the Canisius University Chorale, president of the Arts Promotion Club and a member of Little Theatre.
