Dear Canisius family,

One hundred and fifty-six years ago, Jesuits came to Buffalo and established a community to serve the Church and the people of this city and region. That mission led to the founding of Canisius University and Canisius High School in 1870. Today those institutions continue the legacy of transforming leaders for service to the greater good. The works of the Jesuits in Buffalo also now include Nativity/Miguel Middle School, and touch the lives of so many others through pastoral and service ministries.

The Canisius Jesuit Community has long called Loyola Hall, in the heart of the Canisius University campus, its home. However, that will soon change. Consistent with the apostolic planning undergone by the USA East Province of the Society of Jesus over the past few years, the Canisius Jesuit Community has discerned that relocation to a new residence in Buffalo better positions the Jesuit community to fulfill their mission here for the foreseeable future. The Canisius Jesuit Community will remain at Loyola Hall through the end of this academic year and thereafter will transition to its new residence.

While Jesuits will no longer live at Loyola Hall, they will continue their engagement and leadership of our apostolic works. The University and the USA East Province are actively engaged in conversation about the future of Loyola Hall and will discern a path forward in common. I am grateful for the continuing commitment of the Jesuits to Buffalo, and to the Church and the people of this region, who are our mission.

I ask that you join me in prayer and thanksgiving for the members of the Canisius Jesuit Community as they prepare for this transition to a new home, from which they will continue to impact the lives of countless individuals and families in Buffalo and throughout our region.
