Campus BPO Concert Features Faculty English Hornist

BUFFALO, NY – Canisius University will welcome theBuffalo Philharmonic Orchestra (BPO) to campus, under the direction of BPO Associate Conductor Matthew Kraemer, on Sunday, October 16 at 2:30 p.m. in theMontante Cultural Center

The program will feature Canisius University music faculty member Anna Mattix as English horn soloist. The performance will include the following works: 

    • Gioachino Rossini Overture to L’Italiana in Algieri
    • Gaetano Donizetti Concertino in G Major for English Horn and Orchestra
    • Gabriel Fauré Suite from Pelléas et Mélisande
    • Manuel de Falla Ritual Fire Dance from El amor brujo
    • Joaquín Turina L’oracion del torero (The Bullfighter’s Prayer)
    • Manuel de Falla Suite No. 1 from The Three-Cornered Hat

As associate conductor of the BPO, Matthew Kraemer leads each of the orchestra’s major series as well as its award-winning community engagement programs. He is a guest conductor with several other orchestras including Canada’s Mississauga Symphony and the Rochester Symphony. 

Anna Mattix is the English hornist for the BPO, a position she has held since 2007. She is a member of the woodwind faculty at Canisius University, Buffalo State College and the State University of New York at Buffalo. Mattix is a founding member of the Buffalo-based trio Double-Trouble3
