Traditions

Canisius is a institution rich in campus traditions. From our annual Bonfire to Griffest there are numerous ways in which we come together as a community. Below are some highlights:

Bonfire

The annual Bonfire kicks off the academic year! Every year we come together to drum up some school spirit as light a beacon to guide us for the year. We also host a "purple" swap, bring us something purple and we will give you a piece of Canisius apparel.

Fallfest

When the leaves start to change it's time for Fallfest! This annual tradition brings the smell of kettle corn to campus as we prepare for fall with a blend of last chance summer activities as well as some fall traditions.

Thanksgiving Sit Down

Every year we come together as a community to break bread over a traditional thanksgiving meal. Only instead of the usual dining services crew you will be waited on by our faculty and staff!

Griffmas

We close every fall semester with the annual lighting of the tree as well as some games and activities! The event also has a year special guest; Petey Claus!

Winter Carnival

To kick off the spring semester we turn the dining hall into a Winter Carnival! Come enjoy traditional carnival games as well as some standard fair food.

100 Days Party

Only 100 days left until graduation! Time to celebrate!

Griffest

Our end of the year blow out! We turn the parking lot by Lyons Hall into a giant carnival, when you see the ferris wheel peaking over the horizon you know Griffest is around the corner. Fun fact: We will be celebrating our 100th Griffest in the Spring of 2024!
