The Institute for the Global Study of Religion (IGSOR)

 

IGSOR exists in order to promote interest in the study and practice of religion within the Canisius University community and the wider community of Western New York. Affiliated with the department of Religious Studies and Theology at Canisius, its programs and activities facilitate the academic study of religions across the world, promote the Catholic identity of Canisius University, and assist in the Jesuit pastoral mission to educate men and women for the service of faith and the promotion of justice.


Megachurch

ISGOR Research Initiative: Modernization, Megachurches and the Urban Face of Chrisitiantiy in the Global South

This project is the first comprehensive and interdisciplinary research project to describe, analyze, and account for the eruption of megachurches in the Global South. This study will research several very diverse megachurches in ten countries of the Global South:  South Korea, the Philippines, Indonesia, El Salvador, Guatemala, Brazil, Kenya, Ghana, Nigeria, and India.
