The Institute for the Global Study of Religion (IGSOR)
IGSOR exists in order to promote interest in the study and practice of religion within the Canisius College community and the wider community of Western New York. Affiliated with the department of Religious Studies and Theology at Canisius, its programs and activities facilitate the academic study of religions across the world, promote the Catholic identity of Canisius College, and assist in the Jesuit pastoral mission to educate men and women for the service of faith and the promotion of justice.
Ignatian Seminar Program
Each summer, the IGSOR sponsors the Ignatian Seminar Program - a month long summer immersion course taught in third world locations. Students have been exposed to the religious cultures of the Philippines, Mexico, El Salvador and India.
Joseph J. Naples Conversations in Christ and Culture Lecture and Performance Series
Launched in 2000, the Joseph J. Naples Conversations in Christ and Culture Lecture and Performance Series brings lectures and events to campus that cover a wide range of topics within Christianity.
"Road Less-Traveled Pilgrimage"
I am pleased to announce the development of an international seminar for post-college age adults. Modeled after the highly successful student immersion programs of the Institute, these adult seminars will focus on direct experience and group reflection about faith and culture in the countries of study.
