Accounting Program Rankings

Buffalo, NY – Canisius University is earning national recognition for having one of the nation’s leading undergraduate accounting programs.  According to U.S. News & World Report, the Canisius accounting program ranks at No. 50 nationwide, placing it in the top 10 percent of all U.S. undergraduate accounting programs and in the top 25 percent of all AACSB-accredited accounting programs. The rankings evaluated accounting programs on academic quality, faculty credentials, student outcomes and assessments by peer institutions.

“This recognition reaffirms our program’s long-standing reputation for excellence,” says Ian Redpath, JD, chair of the Accounting Department.  “Our faculty bring real-world experience into the classroom, preparing students to excel on the New York State CPA exam and enter the workforce with confidence.”

These rankings place Canisius University alongside similarly respected programs at Georgetown University, Purdue University and Florida State University, as well as Jesuit peers John Carroll, Loyola University New Orleans and Saint Louis University.

Housed within the Richard J. Wehle School of Business, the accounting program prepares students to analyze and interpret financial information vital to business enterprises, government agencies and nonprofit organizations.  Students benefit from a strong support network that includes dedicated faculty and the Canisius Council on Accountancy, a group of accomplished accounting and finance professionals who provide mentoring, internships and career placement assistance.  Canisius accounting students are consistently recognized as top performers on the New York State CPA exam and job placement for graduates is regularly at or near 100 percent.

Canisius offers multiple career-focused tracks to meet the needs of aspiring accountants: a BS in accounting, which is a four-year, 120-credit hour degree; a BS in professional accounting, which is a five-year, 150-credit hour degree that meets New York State CPA exam and licensure requirements; and a BS/MBA, which is a five-year, 150-credit hour combined undergraduate and graduate degree program that meets CPA exam and licensure requirements.
