New Student Transition Programs

Welcome New and Transfer Students!

Thank you for choosing Canisius University for your academic journey. We are extremely happy to have you here and hope that your experiences will be academically and personally fulfilling. Canisius has created some resources specifically designed to assist new and transfer students make a smooth transition into the first semester.

First Year Students

New first year students either enroll in First Year Experience (FYE 101) or Business Exploration (BUS 101). 

FYE 101 is a one-credit course for first-year students in the College of Arts and Sciences and the School of Education and Human Services. FYE will teach college-level academic skills and strategies; introduce college priorities; reinforce our many campus resources; and foster community. The course will serve as a bridge, connecting academics with student services, creating a solid foundation that will lead to increased student success.

BUS 101 is a one-credit course for first-year students in the Wehle School of Business. Students learn about the various functions of business and how they work together to achieve organizational goals.  Events include career panels and employer presentations.

Transfer Students

New transfer students will be enrolled in Griffin Transfer Experience (GRIF 201).  A program specifically designed for first semester transfer students to make the transition to a new environment successful and prepare students to take full advantage of the many new opportunities and resources available to them throughout their college experience. The facilitators will explain core curriculum, introduce academic resources, address student performance, and discuss transitional topics throughout the sessions.
