Canisius University is among the Top 10 regional universities in the North for Best Undergraduate Teaching and Best Value, according to U.S. News & World Report’s 2027 Best Colleges rankings. The recognition affirms what Canisius has long delivered: a high-quality education at an affordable price, at a time when affordability and outcomes are leading issues for students and families.
Canisius ranked No. 10 for Best Undergraduate Teaching. The category recognizes institutions whose faculty demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching. Canisius ranked No. 9 for Best Value, which measures academic quality against what students actually pay after need-based financial aid.

The ranking for Best Undergraduate Teaching focuses specifically on the quality of the undergraduate teaching experience. At Canisius, faculty teach 100% of classes, and the university has an 11:1 student-faculty ratio. Students work closely with professors who are experts in their fields and are deeply engaged in teaching. Faculty mentorship extends beyond the classroom, with students working alongside professors on research and community initiatives and receiving guidance as they pursue internships and professional and service opportunities.
The ranking for Best Value considers academic quality in relation to students’ costs after need-based financial aid, along with the availability of need-based grants and scholarships. At Canisius, every student receives some form of financial aid, and 87% receive scholarship support beyond state and federal aid – underscoring the university’s commitment to reducing the cost of a Canisius education.
