March 21, 2019

Buffalo, NY – Canisius University welcomes Damon Young ’02 to campus to celebrate the release of his debut book, What Doesn't Kill You Makes You Blacker: A Memoir in Essays on Tuesday, April 9 at 7:00 p.m. in the Montante Cultural Center. The event, which is free and open to the public, includes a book discussion and signing.

Young is one of the most read writers on race and culture at work today. He is the co-founder and editor-in-chief of VerySmartBrothas, a nationally recognized daily digital magazine that uses commentary and essay to probe black experiences in pop culture and current events. Young is also a senior editor at The Root magazine, and a columnist for GQ magazine. What Doesn't Kill You Makes You Blacker: A Memoir in Essays is a provocative and humorous memoir-in-essays that explores the ever-shifting definitions of what it means to be black (and male) in America.

Young earned a bachelor’s degree in English from Canisius University in 2002.
