Canisius Offers MBA Concentration in Food Marketing

July 10, 2019

BUFFALO, NY - Today’s food industry is evolving rapidly as traditional business paradigms are replaced with sophisticated technology and techniques to determine demand and potential customers.  To keep pace with these new trends, Canisius University is partnering with its Jesuit counterpart Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, PA, to introduce a new MBA in food marketing in fall 2019.

“Canisius offers the best MBA program in the region and this new concentration in food marketing represents another step in our mission to educate the next generation of business leaders,” says Denise M. Rotondo, PhD, dean of the Richard J. Wehle School of Business.

St. Joseph’s University’s Food Marketing Program is one of the best in the world and its graduates are often among the first to be recruited by Western New York’s most successful food companies, adds Rotondo.

“The food and beverage industry here is expanding exponentially,” she says.  “This new partnership will enable our regional firms, such as Rich Products, Delaware North, Wegmans, Lactalis and Perry’s, to recruit and retain local talent who have the specialized skillset they crave but also come equipped with a Canisius MBA, which educates students into ethical, socially responsible leaders able to compete in a global marketplace.”

The MBA in food marketing teaches students to think strategically as food delivery options, customer expectations and regulatory considerations continue to evolve throughout the industry.  Specialized coursework includes food marketing research, consumer behavior, multicultural and international food marketing, sustainability and consumer wellbeing, among others.

The program is designed with a flexible, online course structure so students can earn their degrees at their pace and with minimal interruption to their personal and professional lives.  They

also have the option to pursue a concentration in food marketing (9 credit requirement) or an advanced certificate (12 credit requirement).

The MBA in food marketing at Canisius is the latest of several graduate-level business programs and concentrations offered by the Richard J. Wehle School of Business.  Earlier this year, the college introduced a new MS in finance, which provides advanced knowledge in the areas of corporate finance, investment management, portfolio management, and financial institutions and markets.  Canisius also offers an MBA in professional accounting, a one-year MBA program and a part-time MBA program, which was ranked No. 1 among private institutions in Western New York by U.S. News & World Report for 2020.

The Richard J. Wehle School of Business offers students a rare combination of world-class programs taught by exceptional faculty in a learning environment that emphasizes the development of ethical and socially responsible leaders.  It is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), a standard achieved by fewer than five percent of business schools worldwide, and ranked No. 7 among small private institutions nationally, by U.S. News & World Report.
